Maesene was the half-sister of Tannen. When their father died, he divided the realm between his two children. Since she was the eldest, Maesene believed she should have been the sole heiress, and civil war begun.
She went to great lengths to conquer Tuornen, allying herself with Vos raiders, and evil elves. She even made a pact with Rhuobhe the Manslayer, but the price to pay was very high: her own son Thalion.
When her unholy blood turned her into an awnshegh, she disappeared among the Five Peaks, and become the queen of the goblins and orogs living among the mountains.
