Heroes: Machteld, Signar, Malik, Niobhe, Trevan.
Year 640 MR - Spring
The Heroes disembark in Lofton, making their presence known, and are escorted to the castle. There they meet Lord Anphelan, acting regent in Lord Thalion's absence and Grandmaster of the Order of the Phoenix. Niobhe explains all that has happened so far, but Lord Anphelan finds himself in a difficult position: to march on the City of Anuire would invite retribution from both the Empire and the Church.
Lord Anphelan assigns the young knight Sir Riegon to Niobhe as a protector and guide in the castle. The two quickly develop a deep bond. But the morning brings bad news: Fauve Avan Roele, Imperial princess and Templar of Haelyn arrives with her man-at-arms and her pet lion, officialy escorted by Cardinal Tannen Tieghan of Tuornen. They also have a bruised and battered Scarlet Jayne in custody.The Heroes decide to remain in hiding.
At court, Princess Fauve threatens Lord Anphelan: her spies have reported that the fugitives are in town, and he will suffer the full consequences of this treason if he does not deliver them before dawn of the following day. When she leaves the palace, she sets camp outside the castle, where the Heroes can spy on her brutal disciplinary methods.
The party decides to escape from Lofton. Machteld sends her men ahead, hoping to give them a head start on eventual pursuers. Signar single-handedly frees Jayne from the dungeons, and also leave town by road. The rest of the party, together with Sir Riegon, follow a secret passage beneath the castle, that brings them to an hidden pier where they escape by boat.
Machteld's men are caught by Fauve and her pursuing party a couple of days after while they're camped at a village. When the Heroes arrive after one day, they inflitrate the town in disguise, only to ascertain that the few survivors are now prisoners under interrogation. A pile of burned corpses smokes in the distance, while a few fresh corpses are being eaten by two lions, a male and a female.
With heavy hearts, the party leaves them behind, and plan the best way to lose their pursuers.
