Year 640 MR - Spring
The cloaked figures are skulks, a humanoid race living in darkness. The Heroes clean up the lair, also facing a deadly doppleganger. They question the few skulks survivors, and are informed that the doppleganger paid them to kidnap the Heroes. Unfortunately, with the creature now dead, the trail goes cold. Before leaving the lair, the Heroes discover a stone trapdoor, too heavy to be lifted without tools.
The day after, the coronation of the new emperor takes place. During the festivities, Emperor Darien Avan Roele announces his plans for his new empire. But his words leave the crowd astonished: the Emperor proclaims all lands, Anuirean or not, to be brought "into the light", annexed to the Anuirean Empire, and following the One True God, Healyn the Lawgiver.
Lord Thalion is shocked by these news, and begins to plan a way to stop this tragedy before it's too late. He asks the Heroes to help him get the attention of Patriarch Adame, who also looked surprised by the Emperor's words.
The day after, imperiald criers spread the word of the Emperor on the streets of the City of Anuire, and several more travel to the four corners of the Empire: all must kneel before Haelyn, Father of the Gods, whose chosen are the Anuireans. Dwarves and Halflings are stripped of all rights under the Law, and Goblinoids and Elves are declared "spawn of shadow".
The Heroes, awaiting their chance to speak with the Patriarch, decide to complete the exploration of the sewer lair, and with the proper tools manage to open the stone trapdoor. In the chambers below, they're assaulted by ravenous flesh-eating undead, the ghouls.
