Tristan's funeral takes place. During the ceremony, Amani manifests her bloodmark, a red dragon on her cheek. Many bystanders look in surprise, while Thalion and the regents begin to grasp the full meaning of this event. The red dragon bloodmark only appears on the skin of the members of the Avan family, the last Emperors of Aduria before the current Patriarch took the power.
Thalion explains to the party that king Trevan is in fat the illegitimate son of the late Emperor. With no records to prove his birthright, Thalion had hoped either Trevan or one of his scions would manifest the bloodmark. Now that Amani can prove her heritage, Thalion hopes she and her companion will agree to help him to wrest the Empire from the clutches of the Patriarch.
He tells them the Patriarch is not who he seems, and he does not believe he has Anuire's best interest at heart. The heroes, and especially Amani, take some time to ponder on these revelations.
